“Stokke” of Genuis!

8 Aug

Seen most recently on the cover of House Beautiful, the Stokke “Tripp Trapp” chair is a multi-purpose “high chair” that can be used in different ways as a child grows.  The Tripp Trapp chair is also a triumph of design–combining Scandinavian design principles and practicality and elevating the traditionally functional children’s chair by making it into a beautiful piece of furniture to boot.  When was the last time a high chair was featured on the cover of a shelter publication?

As most high chairs are bulky and unattractive, they seem to be concessions parents make to the design gods in return for practicality.  However, the Stokke chair is no concession–it’s a statement maker all its’ own, as demonstrated by its’ “notice me” fire-engine red coloring and prominent placement in the room on the cover.  This is one high chair you won’t see shoved in the corner and covered in a sticky film amidst a pile of discarded Cheerios!
